Cyclogest

Cyclogest’s active ingredient is progesterone, a naturally occurring female sex hormone essential for the normal functioning of the reproductive system, as well as its naturally fluctuate throughout the menstrual cycle. If the egg fails to be fertilized, after ovation has occurred, the level of progesterone in the blood falls before the menstrual period starts. This causes premenstrual syndrome which often affects women during the 7 to 10 days before their monthly period. The symptoms usually attributed to premenstrual syndrome are feelings of tension, irritability, depression, headache, breast tenderness, bloating and weight gain. Some women find that using Cyclogest for 12 to 14 days before their period starts can actually relieve many of the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome.

Cyclogest can also be used to treat post-natal depression which can afflict new mothers after their baby has been born. This is because the placenta produces progesterone throughout pregnancy, and after it has been expelled, there is a dramatic drop in the level of progesterone in the body.

How to Use Cyclogest

You should not swallow Cyclogest. Cyclogest is inserted one of two ways, in the vagina or the rectum. In both cases, the pessaries dissolve and the progesterone is absorbed into the bloodstream via the rich amount of bloodvessels inherent in these areas.

The usual dose of Cyclogest is 200mg a day or 400mg a day by vaginal or rectal insertion. For premenstrual tension start using Cyclogest on day 12 or 14 of your menstrual cycle. This can be planned and marked onto your calendar, day 1 is the first day of your monthly period, counting forward to day 12 or 14 as advised by your doctor.

You should insert Cyclogest into the vagina if you have colitis (inflammation of the colon causing frequent attacks of diarrhea) or trouble controlling your bowl movements, known as fecal incontinence.

You should insert Cyclogest into the rectum if you have a vaginal infection (discharge from the vagina), cystitis (a burning pain on passing water), or have recently given birth.

However, just because a side effect is stated here does not mean that all people using this medication will experience that or any side effect.
